The Family Center for Recovery takes the patients most treatment centers in the United States can’t. Why? Because our facility is not a rehab. It's a hospital for mental health, and we are the only facility in Florida owned and operated by a triple board certified psychiatrist. That's treatment the right way. Often substance use disorder is accompanied by a mental illness and a patient has a dual diagnosis. At time the mental illness is more of a problem than the actual addiction. At FCFR we can treat patients with mental health as the primary. A majority of centers don't operate on a science basis and when the science is ignored, people suffer needlessly, and it is heartbreaking. Far too often people seek treatment from individuals without even knowing their credentials. If you found out you had cancer, you wouldn’t just listen to anybody for help—you would consult a doctor. And here is something alarming. Substance use and mental health disorders are a more fatal epidemic than cancer. In 14 years (’98- ’12), cancer took 595,600 people. In 14 years (‘00 – ’14), drug overdose took 516,000 people In 14 years (‘00 – ’14), suicide took 550,000 people Our founder Dr. Robert A. Moran is Board Certified in Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine by the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He is a clinical instructor of psychiatry at Cornell University, and a member of the faculty of the Biomedical Science at Florida Atlantic University. Since 1993, Dr. Moran has dedicated his life to the study and treatment of substance and mental health disorders. “I realized that there were whole groups of people not being treated because their cases might be too difficult or not profitable enough. I’ve dedicated my life to helping the people no one else will.” – Dr. Robert A. Moran, M.D., F.A.P.A., F.A.S.A.M.
